The Building

baan-pila-building.jpg

Baan Pila opened its doors in March 2023

Initially built in 1972, the building was used as a hotel for Air America Pilots. Since then, the building has changed hands a few times until, recently, it was bought by a young Lao entrepreneur in Vientiane. The essence of the building has stayed the same. The latest renovation - opening up the roof in the Mandarin and Mango rooms.

So why
Baan Pila?

"Baan" in Lao means home or village and Pila is the pomegranate, a fruit you can see in several of trees as you stroll through our property. Each one of our rooms is named after a fruit tree that we have planted in the garden; mandarin, guava, mango, lime, mulberry and papaya.

Baan pila design

We have worked with local artisans to create the furniture and decorations:

  • The Vientianist - is a Lao illustrator that created the artworks you see around the lobby.

  • Passa Paa - is a Hmong print studio in Luang Prabang we used some of their fabrics for the bed heads.

  • Ock Pop Tok - is a weaving studio and crafts centre in Luang Prabang, you may notice some blankets, textiles and bamboo weavings around the property.

  • Our crockery has been made in a village on the other side of the Mekong called Baan Jan.

  • Our toiletries are made in Vientiane by a company called Artsisan de Laos.

The Baan Pila Theory

Cozy, colourful, bright. A place that inspires!

We consider our impact as a hotel and try to minimise our collective footprint on the town, country and beyond.  We use local ingredients, woods, products and designs.
We have been inspired by places like Khoti 28 in Jaipur and Loy La Long in Bangkok.
We want to offer a friendly yet professional personalised service.
